Krishnadasa begins by whetting the reader’s appetite with some highlights of the coming sections from the Madhya-Lila and Antya-Lila.

Before giving details, Krishnadasa summarises the Madhya-Lila, which documents the pastimes of Sri Caitanya from age 24 to age 30. During these six years Sri Caitanya preached across India, visited the holy *dhama* of Sri Vrindavana, and expanded the Ratha-yatra festivals at Jagannatha Puri.

The Antya-Lila details the final eighteen years (age 30 to age 48) of Sri Caitanya’s life, which were spent exclusively in Jagannatha Puri. In the first six of these years, Sri Caitanya openly associated with His devotees, showing great love by sometimes glorifying them, and at other times sternly correcting them.

The final twelve years of Sri Caitanya’s life were spent in seclusion. Living in the Gambhira, He manifested the extraordinary symptoms of ecstatic love.
